Children’s early experiences – the bonds they form with their parents and their first learning experiences – deeply affect their future physical, cognitive, emotional and social development. Optimizing the early years of children’s lives is the best investment we can make as a society in ensuring their future success. The neurological stimulation through learning during early ages even affects the way one may learn later in life. If children don’t learn in their early childhood, they may have more trouble learning in the future.
SNEH Pre-school is one of SNEH Foundation’s many initiatives which is aimed towards providing quality early education in English to the children who deserve it as a right but to whom cost becomes a barrier. We believe education is an indispensable component in a person’s life and is the only sustainable option towards one’s development. Starting from the root is nothing short of a gambit in today’s competitive world. SNEH Preschool is a unique endeavor where we majorly focus on imparting early childhood education to those children whose parents are of limited means and find it difficult to provide education to them in private, English-medium schools.
In these times, even basic school-education has become an extravagance. To prevent poverty, get the best of the impoverished, we look out for families which are below poverty line as the primary beneficiaries of this project. We strive to provide the same level of education as the overpriced private schools, mixed with fun activities and games.
The first pre-school was inaugurated by Honorable Member of Parliament, Shri Gajanan Babar on the Republic Day of 2013.
Originally started with 30 kids enrolled to Nursery, we’ve tripled the strength in the past 3 years, thanks to the numerous helping hands and positive wishes. Currently, we have strength of 90 kids in one school and 50 in the second. Our target-group is mainly the kids between the ages of 3-6 years.
Post Pre-Primary Education, we use Right to Education (RTE -25%) policy of the government to enroll our kids to reputed ICSE, CBSE and state board schools. In case if the children do not get admission to primary schools through RTE (since RTE process is through lottery), we make sure that they get into good quality English medium schools with minimal fees and try looking for sponsors even after passing out from SNEH Preschools.
SNEH believes that Education is a powerful weapon as it can reduce poverty, increase income, boost economic growth, increase the chance for one to have a healthy life, and promote peace.
Keeping the focus on early childhood education, we want to reach out to as many kids from marginalized communities as possible and use Activity Based Learning (ABL) method apart from the standard curriculum to foster self-learning. ABL serves as one model of child-cantered, child-friendly education, which is the mandate of the Right to Education (RTE) Act in India.
According to experts in education, the ABL method has created a visible improvement in children’s learning and psychology. Children learn to make independent decisions at a young age. Activities include games, hands on experiences, outdoor activities, drawing, kinaesthetic activities, songs etc. to teach the respective concepts properly. Integrated in the curriculum are activities to create awareness about the environment, sanitation, health, and nutrition.
Currently we have 2 preschools, however we plan to open 3 more preschools in the marginalized areas of PCMC and Pune. Below are the locations of the same:
